St. John’s County Burn Ban in Effect
As of May 18th, Florida has 59 active fires burning throughout the state. Almost 200,000 acres of wildfires have burned so far in 2017, due to a lack of rain statewide. With fires on the rise, (some burning out of control) St. John’s County officials have enacted a Burn Ban to help keep our community safe. Statewide fires have emitted smoke which drastically effects the quality of our air. Wildfire smoke may contain ozone, a reactive molecule which irritates the human respiratory system. In addition, wildfire smoke also contains the toxic chemical, carbon monoxide.
