A Crucial Step to Any Water Damage Job

One small, yet critical step that is commonly over-looked (or maybe purposely skipped and then billed for) is a process called "monitoring" for a water damage job. Monitoring a water job consists of a technician going to the job site, documenting atmospheric readings, inspecting dry-out equipment, using moisture detection devices and technology to determine the progress and the status of the dry-out, and applying their knowledge and experience to make any necessary adjustments.
Monitoring is a somewhat tedious, time-consuming part of the water damage restoration process. Even though it is extremely important to keep track of the saturation levels of whatever material you are in the process of drying-out; some restoration companies don't take the time to execute this small but important step. At SERVPRO, monitoring is taken seriously, and executed everyday. We use the monitoring process as a "tool" to improve the overall dry-out experience for our customers. For example: if the atmospheric readings aren't where they need to be; we might add equipment, replace equipment or exchange equipment with a bigger, more effective unit if necessary (such as a dehumidifier). All while communicating with the customer on a day-to-day basis and keeping them updated on the status of the job as well. Our technicians call our customers everyday to let them know their estimated time of arrival's and to address any concerns or worries from the customer.
